  1. Dude can you send me a way to jailbrake my ipod touch on a windows pc? in vid form of text instructions, or both. I just need a good way

    thanks!

  2. Hey A-money. I haven’t really been keeping up to date with the iPod Touch jailbreak scene so can’t really help you out too much. But if you google ‘iPod Touch Jailbreak Windows’ there’s plenty of stuff that comes up. There’s also hacktheipodtouch.com and ipodtouchfans.com where you might be able to find some info. Good luck!

  3. Hey Reemixx,

Great post. If I follow the instructions, jailbreak the touch, can I get it back to its original state by simply restoring it in itunes?

  4. Andrew: I haven’t ever tried it, so I can’t speak from experience. But the restore instructions are on the bottom of the information on that video. It says:

How to restore your iPod Touch:

    1) Connect the iPod Touch
    2) Press and hold sleep+home until the device reboots.
    3) Keep holding until that “please connect me to iTunes”-screen appears
    4) iTunes says something about having detected a touch in recovery mode. Allow it to do its thing.

If you get the -18 error, proceed:

    5) Disconnect the iPod Touch
    6) Close iTunes
    7) Reconnect the iPod Touch
    8) iTunes launches and shows message as in step 4, but this time, the recovery will work

  5. Finally made the jump and followed the touchdev instructions… Everything is working great. So now that I have a jailbroke iPod, any app suggestions?

    Andrew

  6. Andrew: Congrats on your newly jailbroken iPod! Other than the original iPhone apps, Mail, Stocks, Maps etc, I use:

Apollo for chatting through IM from my iPod.
Stumbler for picking up wireless networks.
ToDoList for keeping myself organised when I don’t have my laptop
Notes for jotting down stuff quickly
    PDFViewer for viewing PDF documents
Mobile RSS for my RSS feeds where there’s a wireless network
    Sketches for mucking around
Books for reading on the go (my favourite and most useful app)

The only two games I have on there at the moment are FiveDice and iBlackjack.

I also use the PlainJain theme.

    Have fun :)

  7. hey remixxx

its me again, a money. Thanks to you and touch dev :) i hacked(jailbroke) my ipod touch. the problem is that i cant get mail working, even though it is installed. Can you tell me how you got your mail app working?
    thanks!

  8. @-money: You’ll have to be a little more specific. What exactly is the problem, and how is it not working? What kind of email address are you trying to set up? Does it use pop or imap? I haven’t run into any problems myself. Have you gone into the iPod Touch’s settings and setup mail.app in there?

  9. Its saying something about it cannot verify adress or password, from imap.yahoo.com or something like that. And what exactly is pop or imap?

  10. POP and IMAP are just email protocols. The main noticeable difference is that, with IMAP, the changes you make to an email (reading, deleting, moving to a folder, etc) are stored on the server, so if you delete and email from your inbox using one computer, the email will still be deleted when you access your inbox from another computer. With POP, you have to make changes to emails with every computer you access your inbox from.

The problem you are having is completely to do with the settings you have entered. I wasn’t even aware Yahoo mail used IMAP (I don’t use Yahoo). Where did you get the information for the server settings from? Apparently Yahoo mail is a bit more finicky when using it with an email client, rather than web based. I found a few things that might help you, however. But the youtube videos show setting up yahoo mail with POP, not IMAP.

By the way, the server address for yahoo IMAP with the iPhone is imap.apple.yahoo.com … You could try that, but they say it’s “iPhone only” I’ve no idea if that applies to the iPod Touch.

    Good luck!
